Azerbaijan Prepares Hotels for COP29 with Sustainable Development Training


BAKU: Azerbaijan is actively preparing its hospitality sector for the upcoming COP29 climate conference by implementing sustainable development training for local hotels. The COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company, in partnership with the State Tourism Agency and the Azerbaijan Hotel Association, is spearheading these efforts to enhance competence in sustainable practices ahead of the event scheduled for November 2024 in Baku.

According to Trend News Agency, the training sessions are designed based on sustainable development guidelines and are conducted by specialists from the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company. The initiative aims to align the local hospitality sector with international standards, with sessions taking place in key areas such as Baku, Absheron, and Sumgayit.

The sustainable development recommendations for the hotel and guest sector, crafted by the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company, incorporate leading international practices. These guidelines focus on responsible resource management, supportin
g the local economy, and ensuring inclusivity. A significant emphasis is placed on accessibility for all guests within hotel infrastructure and services.

The recommendations also promote collaboration with local businesses to reduce carbon emissions, advising hotels to implement energy conservation measures. Strategies to minimize the carbon footprint include adopting energy-efficient installations, conserving water resources, and reducing waste, particularly plastics, through effective recycling systems.
