Azerbaijan Proposes Electronic Tax Access for Diplomatic Missions

Baku:Azerbaijan has proposed a new tax mechanism aimed at streamlining the process for diplomatic and consular missions within the country. The proposal suggests allowing these entities, along with international organizations accredited in Azerbaijan, to access their electronic accounts through an enhanced electronic signature and/or a code and password provided by the tax authority.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the proposed amendment to the Tax Code aims to address the manual workload associated with processing paper receipts submitted by diplomatic and consular missions. Currently, tax authority employees handle these receipts manually, which not only increases administrative tasks but also sometimes results in difficulties with reading and processing the documents.

The new proposal seeks to ensure that the VAT refund process is conducted electronically, thereby simplifying and automating the procedure. This change is expected to enhance the efficiency of tax administration by allowing diplomatic missions to submit applications and upload necessary documents electronically. The proposal also considers the challenges diplomatic missions face in using enhanced electronic signatures, thus incorporating a code and password system as part of the digitalization efforts.
