Baku: The registration of foreign diplomats and their family members in Azerbaijan is set to be governed by new regulations, APA reports. This development is part of a proposed amendment to the Migration Code, which was discussed during the Milli Majlis Committee on Legal Policy and State Building's meeting.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the current system mandates that employees of diplomatic missions and consulates, as well as international organizations' representatives in Azerbaijan, are registered by the relevant executive authority. These individuals, along with their family members and other foreigners visiting on diplomatic missions, receive identification cards approved by the same authority. For migration purposes, the executive authority must submit their information within 10 days.

The process involves issuing official visit visas to the concerned individuals, with their stay dictated by the visa's validity. Extensions for temporary stays are managed by issuing new visas under the Migration Code's provisions. The draft amendment specifies that foreign or stateless staff and their families must register if they stay over 15 days, receiving a registration card from the executive authority.

This registration card will be processed using the 'Entry-Exit and Registration' system, with data shared with the Unified Migration Information System. The new amendment aims to further clarify the list of individuals required to register and improve the digital services involved in the process. The specifics of the registration card and the rules of registration will be finalized by the relevant authority.

Additionally, the draft clarifies the categories of individuals eligible for an official visit entry visa, enhancing the regulatory framework for foreign diplomats and their families residing temporarily in Azerbaijan.
