Baku: Azerbaijan has introduced a legislative proposal aimed at imposing fines and administrative detention for individuals engaged in begging. The proposed changes were discussed during a session of the Milli Majlis.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the proposal includes a new Article 523-1 within the Code of Administrative Offenses. The draft law suggests that individuals caught begging may receive a warning or face a fine between 100 to 200 manats. In certain cases, depending on the circumstances and the individual's identity, administrative detention for a period of up to ten days could be enforced.

The proposal also addresses the involvement of minors in begging. Those found guilty of this act may be fined between 200 to 500 manats. In more severe cases, where fines are insufficient, administrative detention for up to fifteen days may be applied.

The draft law was subjected to voting after discussions in the Milli Majlis and successfully passed its first reading.
