Moscow: Azerbaijan is actively exploring the enhancement of its railway cooperation with Russia and Iran, as demonstrated during a recent visit to Russia. An Azerbaijani delegation led by Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), which is part of AZCON Holding, engaged in both bilateral and trilateral meetings with Russian and Iranian railway officials.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the discussions centered on the current state and potential expansion of railway cooperation, particularly focusing on the development of the International North-South Transport Corridor. The meetings emphasized improving route efficiency and increasing freight volumes along this vital corridor.
The delegations also examined opportunities to fast-track digitalization efforts across the corridor, discussing the implementation of modern digital solutions aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and connectivity. The trilateral meeting culminated in the signing of a joint protocol that underscored the participants' shared commitments.
During bilateral discussions between ADY and Russian Railways, both parties exchanged ideas on developing human capital and explored opportunities to strengthen workforce capabilities and professional expertise. The Azerbaijani delegation also engaged with Russian cargo owners and logistics stakeholders, showcasing the secure and reliable transport services available through the East-West and North-South transport corridors.
A key topic of discussion was the expanding capabilities of the Astara Terminal, strategically positioned on the North-South Transport Corridor, and its increasing potential for transshipment operations. Azerbaijani officials highlighted ADY's Cargo Tracking digital platform, which offers real-time shipment monitoring, improved operational transparency, and more efficient freight management. They also presented other digital solutions designed to enhance customer experience and logistics performance.
The parties concluded that ongoing cooperation and joint initiatives would significantly contribute to the further development of the International North-South Transport Corridor, thus strengthening regional transport connectivity.
