Azerbaijan Pushes for Increased Budget for Cancer Treatment Medicines

Baku: Ahliman Amiraslanov, the Chairman of the Committee on Health of Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has proposed to increase the state budget allocations for the purchase of medicines for oncology patients. Speaking at a joint meeting of the Milli Majlis committees on Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology, Labor and Social Policy, Healthcare, International Relations, and Interparliamentary Relations, Amiraslanov highlighted several ongoing issues in the healthcare sector, particularly concerning cancer treatment.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Amiraslanov noted that the expectations from compulsory medical insurance are high, yet outpatients are still not being provided with necessary medicines despite amendments in the law. He emphasized that primary healthcare services are lacking, especially in remote villages and regions where they are either absent or inadequate. Amiraslanov also pointed out the insufficiency of funds allocated from the state budget for the adequate treatment of oncology patients, citing the high prices of necessary medicines and the need for additional funding to import these medicines into Azerbaijan.
