Azerbaijan Pushes for Membership in UPU Councils During Dubai Congress

Dubai: Azerbaijan is participating in the 28th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the supreme decision-making body, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, APA-Economics reports. The congress, held every four years, elects the Director General and Deputy Director General of the UPU International Bureau, as well as the Chairman and members of the Postal Operations Council and the Administrative Council. This year, Azerbaijan has nominated its candidacy for membership in two councils of the bureau.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, before the elections, Azerbaijan organized an event to strengthen international relations, establish cooperation, and better introduce the country. The event was attended by high-ranking representatives of the UPU, the European Postal Organization, and other postal organizations from more than 150 countries. Masahiko Metoki, Director General of the Universal Postal Union, informed the participants about Azerbaijan’s candidacy for membership in the Postal Operations Council and the Administrative Council, and he acknowledged Azerbaijan’s active cooperation with the organization.

It was noted at the ceremony that Azerbaijan places importance on developing relations in the field of postal operations and the application of standards. The country is applying modern and innovative approaches in this field. The event also presented examples reflecting Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage, allowing participants to become acquainted with the nation’s ancient history, culture, and traditions of hospitality.
