Azerbaijan Reaffirms Commitment to ‘One China’ Principle, Rejects Taiwan’s Independence

Baku: Azerbaijan unequivocally supports the 'One China' principle, stated Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in an interview with Global Times, APA reports. Azerbaijan's position on the Taiwan issue is clear and consistent, firmly grounded in the principles of international law, and does not recognize Taiwan's independence. The nation was among the first to condemn the 'elections' held in Taiwan in January 2024. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the minister emphasized that any actions destabilizing the regional situation are counterproductive and present serious threats to peace, security, and stability. Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted that attempts to change the status quo through provocations, unilateral steps, or external interference increase the risk of confrontation and undermine trust in international relations. In this context, Azerbaijan's support for China on the Taiwan issue reflects its commitment to international law and the sovereign equality of states , as well as the mutual trust that forms the basis of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and China, the foreign minister added.
