Azerbaijan Records Significant Increase in Rice Imports in 2024


BAKU-Azerbaijan has seen a notable rise in rice imports in the first eight months of 2024:zerbaijan has seen a notable rise in rice imports in the first eight months of 2024, with a total of 48,130 tons worth over $50 million, according to data released by the country’s State Customs Committee.

According to Trend News Agency, the increase in imports represents a 17.3 percent growth in volume, amounting to an additional 7,092 tons, and a 36.4 percent rise in value, which translates to an additional $13.3 million compared to the same period in 2023. Last year, from January through August, Azerbaijan imported 41,038 tons of rice valued at $36.6 million.

The data further revealed a rise in the average import price per ton of rice, which escalated by 16.3 percent to $1,039, up from $893.9 during the same period in the previous year. Despite the increase in price, rice imports constituted only 0.39 percent of Azerbaijan’s total imports from January through August of the current year.
