Baku: Sea freight transportation in Azerbaijan has experienced a notable increase of 10% in the first nine months of 2025, as reported by ASCO, a member of the AZCON Holding companies. This growth marks an increase from 6.4 million tons transported during the same period last year to 7 million tons.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, tanker ships played a significant role in this surge, transporting 3,349,441 tons of cargo in the first three quarters of 2025. This represents an increase of approximately 10.6% from the 3,028,549 tons recorded during the same timeframe in the previous year.

Furthermore, transportation by universal dry cargo ships saw a remarkable growth of 70%. These vessels carried 1,019,065 tons of cargo from January to September 2025, a substantial rise from the 601,451 tons transported during the same period in 2024.

Despite these positive trends, the ferry and RoPax-type vessels experienced a decrease in the transportation of motor vehicles, cargo trucks, and wagons. During the reporting period, 28,330 units of motor vehicles and cargo trucks, along with 28,076 wagons, were transported. This reflects an approximate 4% decline compared to the corresponding period last year.
