Azerbaijan Secures ITSO Advisory Role for 2026-2028

Washington:Azerbaijan has been re-elected to the Advisory Committee of the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (ITSO) for the term 2026-2028. Sitara Mehdiyeva, the head of the Spectrum Management Division at Azercosmos, announced this development. She also serves as the CIS Regional Co-Lead for the Global Satellite Operators Association (GSOA) and is the official candidate from Azerbaijan for Region C of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radio Regulations Board (RRB).

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Mehdiyeva participated in the ITSO Symposium and the 42nd Meeting of the Assembly of Parties in Washington. During the 'Voices of the Regions: National Perspectives' panel, she discussed Azerbaijan's national priorities in satellite communications, which include service access and affordability, resilience, radio-frequency spectrum management, regulatory challenges, and international cooperation.

The panel emphasized regulatory difficulties, particularly the complex 'landing rights' requirements in some countries, and underscored the importance of support and capacity building for developing nations.

Mehdiyeva expressed that her participation in the ITSO 42nd Assembly provided an invaluable opportunity to gain insights into the organization's activities and engage with international colleagues. She also highlighted that Azerbaijan's re-election will enable the country to continue its contributions to ITSO's initiatives.
