Baku: Azerbaijan imported approximately 27,000 tons of palm oil from January to August 2025, as reported by APA-Economics. The State Statistical Committee’s data revealed that 26,946 tons of ‘crude palm oil and its fractions’ were imported, amounting to 38.415 million US dollars.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this represents a decrease of 26.6% in volume and 10.7% in value compared to the same period in 2024. During the first eight months of 2024, the country imported 36,705 tons, valued at 42.995 million US dollars. The average import price for 1 kg of palm oil in 2025 was 2.42 manats. The imports mainly came from Indonesia, with 25,816 tons, and Malaysia, with 1,129 tons.
The report highlights palm oil’s role as a primary substitute for trans fats, extensively used in the food industry by producers of confectionery, ice cream, chocolate, and chips over the past three decades. Also, margarine production in Azerbaijan amounted to 31,653.5 tons during the reporting period.
