Shamkir: Presidential aide Natiq Amirov has announced that specific targets have been established in the newly devised State Program on agriculture, highlighting President Ilham Aliyev's concerns over stagnation in the sector. During a regional meeting in Shamkir, Amirov, who is the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Economic Policy and Industrial Issues Department of the Presidential Administration, addressed the State Program for the Development of Production and Processing Sectors of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Products in Azerbaijan for 2026-2030, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News agency, Amirov shared that, following President Aliyev's instructions to both the Presidential Administration and the Cabinet of Ministers, a comprehensive State Program has been developed. This program serves as a strategic document outlining a new model for agricultural development, aiming to boost production, ensure resource efficiency, and enhance processing and export capabilities. The plan also targets improvements in fisheries and aquaculture.
The program's primary goal is to transition from extensive to intensive agricultural development, focusing on higher and better-quality yields per hectare. It aims for sustainable agricultural production growth from 2026 to 2030, strengthening food security, and increasing the country's production capacity, productivity, and export orientation. The plan also emphasizes the development of value chains, improved access to modern agricultural services, and expansion in fisheries and aquaculture.
Amirov highlighted that the ongoing discussions would help clarify the implementation strategies of the State Program, aiming for stronger outcomes in the agricultural sector in the upcoming years. He concluded by outlining the immediate tasks and steps for implementing the program, which includes modernizing irrigation systems, increasing yields of wheat and cotton, expanding orchards and greenhouse complexes, enhancing storage facilities, improving livestock breeding, and boosting poultry, milk, meat, and aquaculture production. The program's focus on high productivity, efficiency, and value addition underscores its developmental priorities.
