Azerbaijan Showcases Success of World Urban Forum 13 in New York

New york: A delegation from Azerbaijan, led by Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, participated in the High-Level Meeting on the Midterm Review of the New Urban Agenda implementation at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Anar Guliyev highlighted the significant achievements of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku. He elaborated on Azerbaijan's strategies for sustainable and inclusive urban planning. Guliyev noted that WUF13 was the largest session to date, with over 58,000 participants from 176 countries, marking a crucial step towards the current High-Level Meeting. Anar Guliyev pointed out the inaugural Leaders' Summit, initiated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, that took place during WUF13. This summit gathered heads of state, government officials, and international organizations, emphasizing the importance of urban development in achieving sustainable development, climat e resilience, and human welfare. In line with these objectives, a Ministerial Meeting on the New Urban Agenda convened alongside the forum, attended by representatives from 111 countries, including 80 ministers and deputy ministers. The discussions underscored a unified resolve to transition from commitments to practical implementation through integrated planning, housing policies, governance, and partnerships. These priorities are encapsulated in the Chair's Summary of the Ministerial Meeting and reinforced by the Baku Call to Action, providing a framework for realizing shared commitments in the New Urban Agenda's second implementation phase. Guliyev reiterated Azerbaijan's support for this approach, with the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture committed to implementing the New Urban Agenda's principles at the national level. He also expressed Azerbaijan's readiness to continue cooperating with the UN, UN-Habitat, UN Member States, and stakeholders to promote sustainable urban development.
