BAKU – Azerbaijan is taking a pivotal role in enhancing regional transportation by initiating the “Eurasian Multimodal Transport Route” international association, aimed at improving logistics across Central Asia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, with contributions from Austria and China.
According to Trend News Agency, Rovshan Rustamov, chairperson of the Board of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, outlined the objectives of the new association during a consultative meeting. The association is expected to serve as a collegial body that will oversee the development of transportation route concepts, tariff policies, and the incorporation of digital technology. This initiative reflects Azerbaijan’s strategic efforts to adapt to increasing global cargo demands, particularly from China, and to streamline the logistics network across Eurasia.
Rustamov highlighted the significant interest from China and Austria, indicating international confidence in the route’s potential. He underscored the necessity of this association in the context of yearly global freight transportation growth, which is expected to continue expanding, reaching potentially 28 trillion ton-kilometers by 2050. This ambitious project seeks to position Azerbaijan and its partners as key players in the evolving landscape of global trade and transportation infrastructure.
