Baku: A large quantity of narcotic drugs has been prevented from being smuggled into Azerbaijan, the Press Center of the State Border Service revealed.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, efforts to ensure the reliable protection of the state border and combat the illegal circulation of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors are being successfully continued.

In the service area of the ‘Goytapa’ border detachment of the Border Troops Command of the State Border Service, an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of narcotic drugs from Iran into Azerbaijan was thwarted. As a result of the conducted border search and operational measures, authorities seized a total of 15 kilograms 705 grams of narcotic substances on October 24, which included 12 kg 460 g of marijuana and 3 kg 245 g of opium.

Further operations on October 26 led to the detection and seizure of an additional 49 kilograms 60 grams of narcotic substances, comprising 46 kg 45 g of marijuana and 3 kg 15 g of heroin, along with 550 methadone M-40 tablets. Operational-investigative measures regarding these cases are ongoing.
