Baku:Azerbaijan has expressed its support for the candidacy of Feridun Sinirlioglu for the position of United Nations secretary-general. The current OSCE secretary-general has been nominated by Türkiye for the prestigious role.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada responded to a media inquiry by welcoming the initiative to nominate Sinirlioglu. Hajizada emphasized the significance of a selection process that adheres to the principles and purposes outlined in the UN Charter, highlighting the importance of candidates' professional skills, international and diplomatic experience, impartiality, and their ability to build consensus among member states.

Hajizada also expressed confidence that ongoing consultations and constructive dialogue among member states would result in a decision that enhances the UN's capability to address contemporary global challenges more effectively.
