Azerbaijan to Annually Review Minimum Wage Under New Amendment

Baku: The minimum wage in Azerbaijan will be reviewed at least once a year, APA reports. This proposed amendment to the Labor Code was discussed at a recent meeting of the Milli Majlis Committee on Labor and Social Policy.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft stipulates that the minimum wage will be reviewed no less than annually by a designated institution, based on proposals submitted by an authorized body. This regulation aims to ensure the minimum living standard for workers and aligns with the practices monitored by international organizations, such as the International Labour Organization.

The World Bank Group's 'Business Ready' report highlights the absence of a legal requirement for periodic minimum wage updates as a negative factor. In response, a draft law was prepared to amend the Labor Code, supporting legislative reforms in labor relations and employment. This initiative is linked to the 'Labor force' indicator in the World Bank Group's report, officially approved on February 19, 2025, by the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan.

The adoption of this draft law will facilitate regular updates to the minimum wage, enhancing social protection for workers. It also aims to address the country's previously noted shortcomings in international evaluations, as highlighted in the 'Business Ready' report.
