Azerbaijan to Establish Genetic Material Banks for Animal and Plant Preservation

Baku: Advanced genetic material banks focusing on the genetic resources of local animal breeds and plant species will be established in Azerbaijan. This initiative is part of the 'State Program for 2026-2030 on the development of production and processing sectors of agricultural, fisheries, and aquaculture products in the Republic of Azerbaijan'.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the program outlines the creation of a working group to assess the current situation during 2026-2030 to ensure coordinated activities nationwide. The plan includes measures for the collection, storage, protection, and registration of genetic resources. The development of genetic material banks and related databases for indigenous animal breeds and plant species, particularly those at risk of extinction, has been highlighted as a priority.
