Azerbaijan to Unveil Green Buildings Roadmap Before COP29

BAKU: Azerbaijan is poised to introduce a comprehensive roadmap for the construction of green buildings in the lead-up to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The announcement was made by Leyla Huseynli, a specialist in sustainable finance at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), during a conference on innovative solutions for sustainable microfinance.

According to Trend News Agency, the IFC plans to create a regulatory and support framework for green building development in Azerbaijan. This initiative arises from a memorandum of understanding with the State Committee on Architecture and Urban Planning, which will direct the formation and presentation of the roadmap. The roadmap is slated for release before COP29, scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan in November.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was established at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 with the goal of preventing dangerous human interference with the climate
system. The COP, or Conference of the Parties, is the convention’s highest legislative body, overseeing its implementation. COP29 follows a tradition of annual gatherings, with the first COP having taken place in Berlin in March 1995. The secretariat of the convention is based in Bonn, and the convention has 198 member countries.
