Azerbaijan Urges Armenia to Fulfill Obligations for Opening Regional Communications

BAKU—Aykhan Hajizada, spokesperson for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, reiterated the nation’s call for Armenia to meet its commitments regarding the opening of communications that would connect Azerbaijan’s western regions with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, despite Armenia’s acknowledgment of its responsibilities, which have been formally agreed upon, the obligations have remained unmet for the past four years. Hajizada highlighted that Armenia’s actions are critical for enhancing regional connectivity and cooperation. He also addressed rumors about the involvement of foreign private companies in the process, clarifying that Azerbaijan has not considered third-party involvement on its territory.

The spokesperson emphasized that the onus is on Armenia if it genuinely seeks to improve regional communication networks. By fulfilling its obligations, Armenia could significantly contribute to stabilizing and developing the region.
