Baku: Elkhan Polukhov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan, has presented his credentials to Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan Abdelrahman Al-Burhan, President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of the Republic of Sudan. Ambassador Polukhov conveyed the greetings of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the Sudanese leader during the credential ceremony.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the ambassador highlighted Azerbaijan's appreciation for the Sudanese president's visits to Azerbaijan, including an official visit in October 2019 and his participation in the COP29 World Leaders Summit scheduled for November 2024. These visits underscore the ongoing diplomatic engagements between the two nations.

Ambassador Polukhov expressed Azerbaijan's readiness to further strengthen bilateral relations. He recalled the meeting between the Azerbaijani and Sudanese leaders at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in April 2025, emphasizing the importance of such dialogues. The ambassador also thanked Sudan for its support of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty, reaffirming Azerbaijan's commitment to Sudan's sovereignty.

Both leaders praised the current state of bilateral relations and their cooperation within international frameworks such as the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Ambassador Polukhov pointed out that Azerbaijan would chair the OIC in 2027 and expressed hope for Sudan's active participation in the upcoming Islamic Summit in Azerbaijan.

President Al-Burhan conveyed his greetings and best wishes to President Ilham Aliyev through Ambassador Polukhov, expressing Sudan's eagerness to enhance cooperation for mutual benefit. He also stated his intention to attend the OIC Summit in Azerbaijan in 2027, schedule permitting.

Following the ceremony, Ambassador Polukhov signed the memorial book and engaged with the local press, marking a significant step in consolidating Azerbaijan-Sudan relations.
