Astara: A significant meeting took place on June 1 at the Astara state border checkpoint within the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Delegations led by Colonel General Elchin Guliyev, Chief of the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Major General Ghasem Rezaei, Deputy Commander of the Law Enforcement Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, convened to discuss various crucial border security issues.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the discussions centered around the current situation on the Azerbaijan-Iran state border and border crossing points. The delegations focused on measures being implemented to ensure border security and the organization of border protection in areas liberated from occupation. Additionally, efforts to establish new transport and communication links between the East Zangezur Economic Region of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic were also on the agenda.
The meeting highlighted the dynamic development of cooperation between the border protection agencies of Azerbaijan and Iran. Both sides emphasized the importance of further strengthening efforts to combat smuggling, illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and other transnational crimes across the state border.
It was noted that such meetings are crucial in contributing to the development of relations and strengthening cooperation between the border agencies. The discussions were held in a spirit of friendship, mutual trust, and understanding.
