Azerbaijani and Turkish Railways Discuss Enhancing Middle Corridor Traffic

BAKU — In a significant move to enhance the Middle Corridor’s capacity for freight transport, Azerbaijani and Turkish railway companies convened to explore growth opportunities. The discussions occurred in Baku during a meeting focused on establishing the International Association “Eurasian Transport Route,” reported the Azerbaijani Railways (ADY) CJSC via Trend News Agency.

According to Trend News Agency, the talks featured ADY Chairman Rovshan Rustamov and TCDD (Turkish State Railways) General Director Ufuk Yalcin. This gathering marked the second meeting this year where heads of railway administrations deliberated on the pivotal role Azerbaijan and Turkey play in facilitating east-west cargo transit. The participants discussed enhancing the railway connection, specifically the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) line, to increase freight volumes along this critical transport corridor.

The meeting underscored the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor, which serves as a vital link between China and the European Union through Central Asia, the Caucasus, Turkey, and Eastern Europe. Highlighting the efficiency of the route, officials noted that trains could transport goods from China to Europe within 20-25 days, emphasizing the corridor’s role in boosting trade between Asia and Europe.
