Bukhara: Azerbaijani and UAE parliaments have been successfully cooperating within international and regional organizations, as highlighted in a recent meeting between the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, and Maryam Majid Bin Theneya, Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates. On May 14, during their meeting in Bukhara, the leaders discussed the deepening relationship between the two nations, characterized by brotherhood, mutual respect, trust, and support.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, both parties emphasized the importance of joint efforts by their respective leaders and high-level reciprocal visits, which have elevated bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. The meeting focused on cooperation within international bodies, highlighting their mutual support in organizations such as the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis praised the participation of UAE parliamentary representatives in the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, which was initiated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The meeting also addressed the significance of forums like the Second Asian Women's Forum for discussing bilateral cooperation. Both leaders agreed on the importance of using parliamentary platforms for these discussions. The successful ties between the legislative bodies of the two nations were acknowledged as both countries have benefited from cooperation at bilateral and international levels.
Additionally, the meeting underscored the role of inter-parliamentary friendship groups in enhancing these ties. The Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Milli Majlis and the UAE Federal National Council was recognized as a vital document for further expanding cooperation, reflecting the commitment of both countries to strengthen their strategic partnership.
