Novi pazar: Azerbaijani boxer Amina Taghi has won the title of European champion, Apasport.az reports. The athlete, competing in the 50 kg weight category, achieved this success at the continental championship among juniors held in Novi Pazar, Serbia.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Taghi defeated Armenian opponent Amest Afrikyan in the final. The Azerbaijani boxer secured her victory with a score of 4:1 (29:28, 29:28, 29:28, 27:30, 30:27), ascending to the top of the podium. The Azerbaijani anthem resonated in Novi Pazar in her honor.
In addition to Taghi’s gold medal, other Azerbaijani female boxers had a successful outing. Jamila Muradli (52 kg), Fidan Bekarova (63 kg), and Sema Abbasova (66 kg) secured silver medals, while Aylin Nazarova (46 kg), Guler Huseynova (48 kg), and Zahra Mammadova (54 kg) clinched bronze medals. The Azerbaijani women’s national team concluded the European Championship with a total of 1 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
On the sixth day of the competition, Safdar Mammadzade (+80 kg) reached the final after defeating Belarusian Kirill Zhukovsky with a complete advantage in the semi-final. Mammadzade is set to face Russian Bogdan Smolkin in the decisive match.
Earlier in the championship, Azerbaijani male boxers also demonstrated commendable performances. Gardash Rahimov (46 kg), Mahammad Rasulov (50 kg), Raul Heydarli (54 kg), Shahin Aslanli (60 kg), and Hagverdi Hasanov (63 kg) each secured bronze medals.
