Azerbaijani Boxer Subhan Mamedov Wins World Championship in Dubai

Dubai: Azerbaijani boxer Subhan Mamedov has been crowned world champion, Apasport.az reports. The 19-year-old showcased his skills at the world championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he emerged victorious in the 48 kg category.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mamedov, a graduate of the Aghjabadi boxing school and the U-23 European champion as of November, faced Russian boxer Edmond Khudoyan in the final match. Mamedov secured a narrow 4:3 victory with judges’ scores of 30:27, 28:29, 29:28, 30:27, and 28:29, marking him as Azerbaijan’s youngest ever world champion.

The Azerbaijani national team concluded the championship, which included participants from 120 countries, with a total of one gold and two bronze medals. Alfonso Domingues (92 kg) and Mahammad Abdullayev (+92 kg) both secured third-place finishes, contributing to the team’s overall success at the tournament.
