Tbilisi: Azerbaijani citizens have emerged as the third-largest group among foreigners with residence permits in Georgia.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, during a parliamentary session on migration issues, disclosed that residence permits have been granted to 107,307 citizens from 164 countries.

Azerbaijani citizens account for 6.3% of these permits. Kobakhidze suggested that many of these Azerbaijani citizens might have previously left Georgia, acquired Azerbaijani citizenship, and have now returned.

The Prime Minister also highlighted that the highest numbers of residence permits were issued to citizens of Russia and India, with 32,129 and 23,930 permits respectively.
