Azerbaijani Conductor to Lead “The Nutcracker” Performance in Houston


HOUSTON: “The Nutcracker,” the celebrated ballet by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, is set to grace the stage in Houston, Texas, on December 7-8, 2024. The performance will feature the newly established Houston Repertory Ballet Orchestra, directed by Azerbaijani conductor Tarana Taylor. This event will also showcase notable soloists Lea Fleytoux and Jake Roxander from the American Ballet Theatre in leading roles.

According to Trend News Agency, via the State Committee of Azerbaijan for Diaspora Affairs, Tarana Taylor, who has received accolades for her previous work, conducted the 2023 premiere of “The Nutcracker” to positive reviews in Texas. Taylor, a graduate of the Uzeyir Hajibeyli Baku Music Academy, has a rich background in various musical disciplines, including solo, vocal, instrumental, chamber, orchestral, theatrical, and ballet music.

Taylor has had a long-standing association with the Houston Repertory Ballet, having served as a pianist for seven years before founding her own orchestra. Her ensemble features
renowned musicians performing not only across the United States but also internationally.

In addition to her orchestral achievements, Taylor has made significant strides in music education. In 2024, she founded the Texas Music Club, from which 15 students participated in the “All-State Music Festival” in the United States. These students attained commendable results and received awards for their performances, underscoring Taylor’s impact on fostering musical talent.
