Baku: Under the leadership of Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, the Azerbaijani delegation is participating in the continuation of the Second Session of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Assembly in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the session held on May 29-30 focuses on the UN-Habitat Strategic Plan for 2026-2029 and aims to adopt international guidelines on ‘People-Centered Smart Cities,’ which promote the use of digital technologies for social welfare. The event will also feature a high-level dialogue on housing provision titled ‘Adequate Housing for All,’ and elections for the UN-Habitat Assembly Executive Board.

During the visit, Anar Guliyev, in his capacity as national coordinator of the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), is engaging in several official meetings. These include bilateral discussions with the Executive Director of UN-Habitat and heads of delegations from various countries. The topics of discussion include preparations for the World Urban Forum set to take place in Azerbaijan in 2026, participation in the Forum, and exploring future cooperation opportunities.

Azerbaijan is also showcasing a stand at the Forum, which informs visitors about the plans for future cities within the framework of WUF13 and highlights modern urban planning principles.

The UN-Habitat Assembly serves as the foremost decision-making entity in sustainable urban development and human settlements, uniting UN member states and key partners to deliberate on urban development issues, shape global policy, and advance initiatives aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 11. This goal focuses on making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. The initial part of the Second Session of the Assembly occurred in June 2023.
