Azerbaijani deputy PM attends swearing-in ceremony of Brazil’s President

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov has attended the swearing-in ceremony of Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Brazil told AZERTAC.

 

The ceremony was attended by a number of heads of state and government, as well as other high-level officials.

 

During the ceremony, Deputy PM Ali Ahmadov conveyed the greetings and congratulations of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, saying that Azerbaijan wishes to further develop relations with Brazil. Ali Ahmadov expressed gratitude to President Lula, who supported the position of Azerbaijan regarding its regional security and stability during his previous presidential terms, and expressed confidence that Brazil would continue to provide political support for Azerbaijan.

 

As part of his visit, Deputy PM Ali Ahmadov also met with President Lula’s adviser on foreign policy and security issues, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense Celso Amorim, and discussed the prospects for relations between the two countries.

 

On January 2, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov met with Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and First Deputy Foreign Minister Maria Laura da Rocha. During the meeting, the sides discussed the prospects for cooperation between the two countries at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

 

Noting that Azerbaijan is a leading country in the region, Ali Ahmadov highlighted the rapid development of the economy. He said that Azerbaijani officials are ready to discuss new prospects for political and economic cooperation with Brazil and believe that this will be mutually beneficial.

 

Deputy PM Ali Ahmadov also mentioned that this year will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Azerbaijan, adding that both countries will host a number of events in this regard, as well as organize reciprocal visits of high-level state and government officials.
