Azerbaijani Documentary Receives Honorable Mention at SEEfest

Los angeles: The short documentary film "Palaces of Memory" by Azerbaijani director Matlab Mukhtarov has been honored with an 'Honorable Mention' award in the short documentary category at the 21st South East European Film Festival (SEEfest) held in Los Angeles, United States.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, SEEfest is an annual event based in Los Angeles that highlights Southeast European cinema to global audiences, promoting a range of perspectives in the United States. This year, out of thousands of submissions, only six films were selected for the documentary competition, marking a significant achievement for Azerbaijani documentary cinema with the inclusion of "Palaces of Memory."

The film made its world premiere at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival in the Czech Republic. Directed by Matlab Mukhtarov and produced by Emil Najafov, the documentary was produced by Rental Azerbaijan, with post-production supported by ARKA under the Ministry of Culture.

"Palaces of Memory" delves into the director's exploration of his earliest memory. As he retraces his childhood and navigates the streets of his hometown, he starts to question the authenticity of a memory that involves his father, who passed away when he was just one year old, and his grandmother.

The documentary's screening at the prominent Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival, followed by its recognition at SEEfest, underscores the growing international appreciation of Azerbaijani documentary cinema.
