Baku:Azerbaijani judoka Rashid Mammadaliyev has won a bronze medal at the World Judo Championships held in Baku.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Mammadaliyev competed in the 73 kg weight category and defeated Brazil's Daniel Cargnin in the bronze-medal bout, securing third place in the world.
Other Azerbaijani judokas faced early exits in the tournament. Hidayat Heydarov, also in the 73 kg category, was eliminated in the Round of 16, while Khadija Gadashova (57 kg) lost in the Round of 64.
The championships, taking place at the National Gymnastics Arena, are set to conclude on October 11. On the competition's opening day, Azerbaijani judoka Ahmad Yusifov (60 kg) won a gold medal, becoming the world champion.
