Baku: The flow of Azerbaijani citizens traveling abroad has seen a notable decline, with the total number dropping by 2.6 percent in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period last year. This decrease has resulted in a total of 1,605,000 Azerbaijani citizens traveling internationally from January to September, as reported by APA-Economics.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, there have been varying trends in the destinations chosen by Azerbaijani travelers. While the number of citizens visiting Georgia surged by 22.0 percent, those traveling to Iran saw a modest increase of 2.6 percent. In contrast, travel to the Russian Federation experienced a significant drop of 30.8 percent, and trips to Trkiye decreased by 2.4 percent. Of those traveling, 42.2 percent chose Trkiye as their destination, followed by 14.6 percent to the Russian Federation, 10.8 percent to Georgia, 8.9 percent to Iran, and 23.5 percent to other countries. The gender distribution among travelers was 63.6 percent men and 36.4 percent women.

In terms of transportation preferences, 70.6 percent of Azerbaijani citizens opted for air travel, 27.5 percent chose rail and road transport, and a small fraction of 1.9 percent traveled by sea during the period from January to September 2025.
