Baku: The history of Azerbaijani statehood is a history of severe trials and brilliant victories, said the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, at the international parliamentary conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports. The Speaker stated that the historic mission diligently carried out by the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, made it possible to establish the foundations of the modern state. ‘The Constitution prepared under his leadership determined the principles of the separation of powers and created guarantees for human rights and freedoms. Our Constitution is also a symbol of confidence in the future and the period of nation-building. 20% of our territories recognized by the international mission were under the occupation of Armenia. The fundamental law of our country was based on ending armed aggression and establishing peace. Azerbaijan itself restored the force of international law. Wi
th the restoration of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our state, the principles established in the Constitution were confirmed.’
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Sahiba Gafarova recalled the agreements reached at the meeting held in Washington and the initialing of the peace treaty. ‘The draft of the peace treaty was also submitted by Azerbaijan. Today, parliamentary diplomacy has become one of the most important instruments of soft power. Through parliamentary diplomacy, even the most acute issues are resolved. Parliamentary diplomacy can play a role in further strengthening peace. It is possible to strengthen peace and stability worldwide. Respect for human rights and freedoms largely depends on our commitment to constitutional values. The Azerbaijani state and parliament consistently implement this approach.’
