Azerbaijani Scholars Engage with Chinese Students at Beijing Event

Beijing:Students and faculty members studying Azerbaijani at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) recently engaged with scholars from Azerbaijan. The meeting focused on discussions surrounding the development of the Azerbaijani language programme at the university.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Azerbaijani scholars addressed various questions raised by students about teaching Azerbaijani abroad, as well as phonetic and lexical differences between Azerbaijani and Chinese dialects. They also discussed academic publishing and underscored the significance of the Azerbaijani.edu.az platform in teaching the Azerbaijani language as a foreign language.

During the meeting, Azerbaijani scholars commended the language abilities of the Chinese students and provided suggestions on textbooks, curriculum development, and opportunities for student exchanges. The Azerbaijani language department at BFSU, which was established in 2016, admitted its first batch of nine students in 2018, marking them as China's first specialists in Azerbaijani studies. Admissions resumed in 2023, with eight students currently enrolled in the undergraduate programme.

BFSU continues to work closely with Azerbaijani academic, cultural, and media institutions, including the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Baku State University, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Khazar University, and the Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC), among others.
