Azerbaijani Wrestlers Shine at U-23 World Championships with Multiple Medals

Novi sad: Azerbaijani wrestler Khetag Karsanov secured a silver medal at the World Youth Championships (U-23) held in Novi Sad, Serbia. Karsanov, competing in the 125 kg weight category, faced a challenging final match against Iranian athlete Abolfazl Nejad, who emerged victorious with an 11-0 win, leaving Karsanov to claim the silver.

According to Trend News Agency, the Azerbaijani national team has demonstrated impressive performance at the championships, amassing a total of six medals. This includes three gold medals, one silver, and two bronze. Among the gold medalists are Kenan Heybatov (70 kg), Elmir Aliyev (55 kg), and Ziya Babashov (63 kg), who have each secured world champion titles. Meanwhile, Ruslan Nurullayev (72 kg) and Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg) contributed to the medal tally with bronze victories.

In particular, Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler Kenan Heybatov showcased his skills by winning the gold medal in the U-23 category. Heybatov triumphed over Iranian competitor Sina Khalili with a 9-4 victory in the final. This achievement adds to Azerbaijan’s impressive medal haul at the championships, highlighting the country’s strong presence in the wrestling arena.
