Azerbaijanis from Georgia Explore Historical Sights in Shusha and Aghdam

SHUSHA: Another group of Azerbaijanis from Georgia visited the recently liberated territories of Azerbaijan, exploring the historical and cultural landmarks in the cities of Shusha and Aghdam. The visitors were given a comprehensive tour of significant sites that have undergone extensive restoration following years of occupation.

According to Trend News Agency, the group began their visit in Shusha, where they toured the central square. During their visit, they observed the shot monuments of prominent Azerbaijani figures such as Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibeyli. They received detailed information about the city’s history and the impact of the occupation, which included damage to historical buildings, mosques, and monuments. Significant restoration efforts have been underway since Shusha’s liberation, including work on the house of Khurshidbanu Natavan and the Yukhari Govhar Aga mosque.

Later, the group traveled to Aghdam in the afternoon. A key highlight of their visit was the Juma Mosque, which was or
iginally constructed between 1868-1870 and suffered during the Armenian occupation. Since the city’s liberation, Azerbaijan has restored the mosque. The visitors also inspected the ruins of buildings along Aghdam’s central street. The city, once one of the largest and most developed in the Karabakh region and the republic, was devastated during the occupation. In the aftermath, extensive construction efforts have been initiated to rebuild the city and its surrounding villages.

The visit is part of a series of trips organized for Azerbaijanis from Georgia, with three groups visiting over six days. The first group has already explored the cities of Shusha, Khankendi, and Aghdam.
