Baku: The Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Mine Action (ANAMA) has provided a detailed update on the ongoing demining operations in the areas recently liberated from occupation, covering the period from August 11 through August 17.

According to Trend News Agency, ANAMA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), the State Border Service (SBS), and four private companies, has successfully uncovered and neutralized 153 anti-personnel mines, 30 anti-tank mines, and 673 unexploded ordnance. These operations were carried out across several districts, including Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankendi, Shusha, Khojavend, Lachin, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Gubadly, and Zangilan, as well as in newly liberated villages in the Gazakh district such as Baghanis Ayrum, Ashagi Askipara, Kheyrimli, and Gizilhajily.

In the past week, a total area of 1,362.7 hectares has been successfully cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance. ANAMA’s efforts are crucial in ensuring the safety and security of these regions, paving the way for rehabilitation and redevelopment.

The Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action was established in 1998. The agency’s goals include mobilizing resources to address mine action in accordance with national priorities, coordinating inter-agency efforts for the safe removal of mines, conducting ongoing research, and facilitating the transfer of cleared territories to end users. Additionally, ANAMA is committed to raising global awareness about Azerbaijan’s mine-related challenges and fostering collaboration with international and donor organizations to mitigate the mine threat.
