Baku: A World Summit of Religious Leaders is set to take place in Baku as part of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) on November 5-6. The Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) confirmed this development to Trend.
According to Trend News Agency, the summit will be organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, the Muslim Council of Elders, the CMO, and the United Nations Environment Programme. This significant forum will host around 30 leaders from both secular and traditional religious backgrounds, including heads of renowned religious centers such as patriarchs, officials from the Vatican, and Al-Azhar. The conference will feature internationally recognized religious and public figures from 55 countries and 30 international organizations, with a few media representatives also expected to attend.
The event aims to contribute to the ongoing global dialogue on climate change, a crit
ical issue for the planet’s future. This aligns with Azerbaijan’s previous hosting of the I and II World Summit of Religious Leaders. Additionally, President Ilham Aliyev’s declaration of 2024 as the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” underscores Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering human solidarity for environmental causes.
The summit represents another international achievement for Azerbaijan, as it gathers effective proposals and efforts from world religious leaders to address climate change within the framework of COP29, as noted by the source.
