Azerbaijan’s Contributions to Girls’ Education and Women’s Empowerment Highlighted by UN Official

Baku:Azerbaijan has been recognized for its significant contributions to girls' education and women's empowerment, as noted by a UN official. The country's efforts were showcased through various initiatives, including a notable meeting in Baku in 2017 held in cooperation with UNESCO. This meeting led to the adoption of the 'Global Humanitarian Call to Action,' which focuses on promoting investment in girls' education.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UN Women Deputy Executive Director for Normative Support, emphasized these efforts in a video message to the participants of the 'Women Dialogue Knowledge, Leadership and Opportunity Empowering Women and Girls to Build Bridges for a Shared Future'.

She further highlighted the recent expansion of the 'Equal Opportunities in Technology' programme in Baku this April. This initiative brought together Azerbaijani and Turkish partners to provide students with skills in emerging technologies.

Gumbonzvanda also pointed out that the forum offered a chance to evaluate the progress made since 2017, address the remaining gaps, and renew commitments to advancing girls' education and women's economic empowerment.
