Azerbaijan’s Deputy Defense Minister Engages in Strategic Meetings During ADEX 2026

Baku:On October 2, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Defense, Director General Agil Gurbanov, held a series of meetings during the 6th Azerbaijan International Defense Exhibition ADEX 2026). He met with Greg Sawyer, Head of the Office of the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs and Defense Policy, and other international defense officials.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Director General Agil Gurbanov emphasized Azerbaijan's dedication to military cooperation with the United States and noted the successful participation of Azerbaijani servicemen in peacekeeping operations. Greg Sawyer appreciated his visit to Azerbaijan, commending the hospitality and the current level of bilateral cooperation in defense, security, and military-technical areas.

Discussions between the officials included topics such as upgrading next-generation technology infrastructure and exchanging experiences in modern defense equipment production. They also explored the expansion of military-technical cooperation and other technical matters. The meeting was also attended by 2nd Rank Captain Christopher Familetti, Head of the U.S. Military Group at the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan.

In addition to the meeting with U.S. officials, Director General Agil Gurbanov conversed with Marius-Gabriel Lazurca, Adviser to the President of Romania on National Security and Foreign Policy, and Geunyung Park, Director General of South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration. Their discussions focused on the production of UAVs, armed unmanned surface vessels, maritime systems, and other defense industry interests.
