Jeddah: Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev attended an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Somalia. The meeting, conducted at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, sought to affirm support for Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, in opposition to the recognition of the 'Somaliland' region as an independent state. Discussions also focused on possible joint actions in support of Somalia. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Deputy Foreign Minister Rafiyev reiterated Azerbaijan's support for Somalia's sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity. As an active member of the OIC Contact Group on Somalia, he emphasized that Azerbaijan would continue to back the collective efforts of the international community, including the member states of the OIC, to address this issue. During the meeting, Rafiyev highlighted Azerbaijan's dedication to international law norms and principles. He called on t he international community to act responsibly and within the framework of international law to ensure peace, stability, and security in various regions, including the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea basin. The 22nd extraordinary session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers concluded with the adoption of a resolution by member states. The resolution expressed clear and firm support for Somalia and its territorial integrity.
