Baku: The Garadag Solar Power Plant (SPP) has generated a total of 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity since it was put into operation, the director of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy, Javid Abdullayev, told reporters.

According to Trend News Agency, Abdullayev highlighted Azerbaijan’s goal to boost the share of renewable energy in its installed capacity to 30 percent by 2030. He mentioned that if the current pace of progress continues, the country could reach this target by the end of 2027. Significant efforts are being made to ensure this target is met.

The director also emphasized the role of the company Masdar as a significant partner for Azerbaijan in the renewable energy sector. Masdar’s 230-megawatt plant, located in the Garadag district, has already been commissioned, marking a key milestone in the country’s renewable energy advancements.

Abdullayev further noted that October 26 will mark two years since the project was launched. Initially, the expectation was to generate half a billion kilowatt-hours annually. However, by the end of two years, the production is set to reach 1 billion kilowatt-hours.

The Garadag SPP, inaugurated in 2023, has a capacity of 230 megawatts, demonstrating Azerbaijan’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy capabilities.
