Azerbaijan’s Historical Monuments in Karabakh Recognized by ICESCO

Baku:Azerbaijan has received certificates for two significant historical monuments in Karabakh, which have been included in the Islamic World Heritage List by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO). The certificates were awarded to Azerbaijan for the preservation and restoration efforts of these sites.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik, the Director-General of ICESCO, presented the certificates during the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku. The monuments recognized are the Aghdam Imarat Historical and Architectural Museum Complex and the Shusha State Historical and Architectural Reserve. The certificates were given to Emin Huseynov, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts.

AlMalik highlighted the visits made by ICESCO delegations to the liberated territories of Karabakh. The initial visit took place in 2020, during which the delegation noted the dangers posed by landmines and the extensive destruction in the region. He remarked on the challenging tasks the government faced in addressing these issues.

An international mission, including experts from France, Germany, and Colombia, was established to conduct research in Karabakh. This mission produced a report after its first visit and returned for a second assessment, which was later presented to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

AlMalik emphasized ICESCO's high regard for Azerbaijan's efforts in protecting Karabakh's historical and cultural heritage. He noted the significance of the organization's documents in representing the condition of these historical sites at an international level.
