Baku: Seven people have been detained in an operational-search event conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) at the Baku branch of the ‘Rossiya Segodnya’ Information Agency (‘Sputnik Azerbaijan’), APA reports. A criminal case has been initiated under the articles of the Criminal Code related to fraud, illegal entrepreneurship, and legalization of property obtained by criminal means. Two individuals have been arrested, and five others have been held criminally liable. Investigative actions are ongoing in the criminal case.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the investigation was launched based on operational information indicating that the Baku branch of ‘Rossiya Segodnya’ Information Agency (‘Sputnik Azerbaijan’) continued its activities through illegal financing. This was despite the suspension of the branch’s accreditation by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in February 2025. The Press Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted these developments as they continue to probe the case further.
