BAKU: As international tensions rise, Azerbaijan seeks to enhance its global influence by joining BRICS, a consortium of emerging economies. The upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan, featuring representatives from 32 nations, will focus on the potential expansion of the group. Azerbaijan’s President, Ilham Aliyev, is expected to attend, underscoring the country’s aspirations to become part of this influential bloc.

According to Trend News Agency, Azerbaijan formalized its application to join BRICS on August 20, following its initial expression of interest at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in July 2024. The move is part of Azerbaijan’s broader strategy to strengthen its international ties and economic cooperation, particularly with rapidly growing economies. China’s support for Azerbaijan’s bid highlights the strategic partnerships being forged to bolster global economic collaboration.
