Azerbaijan’s “mygov” E-Government Platform Aims to Foster Competition, Avoid Monopoly

BAKU—During the unveiling of the updated “mygov” e-government platform, Chairperson Inara Valiyeva of the Innovation and Digital Development Agency highlighted the importance of preventing the platform from becoming a monopolistic service in Azerbaijan’s digital landscape.

According to Trend News Agency, Valiyeva discussed the broader goals of sustainability and the ongoing need to adapt technology platforms to evolving societal and technological demands. She outlined the foundational principles that guided the development of “mygov,” emphasizing adaptability, cooperation, and citizen-centric design as core to the platform’s ethos.

“It is essential that ‘mygov’ remains one of many options available to citizens for accessing services, ensuring that it does not become the sole provider,” Valiyeva stated. She stressed that true sustainability for “mygov” lies not just in its current capabilities but in fostering a competitive environment where multiple platforms can coexist, meeting the required standards for service delivery.

Valiyeva acknowledged the collaborative efforts behind “mygov,” noting the involvement of various government bodies and private entities such as the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Their collective input has been crucial in integrating data, refining systems, and legislating the necessary frameworks to support “mygov.”

“From legislative backing to technical integration, these collaborations have been indispensable. They enable us not only to achieve today’s outcomes but to ensure that the platform remains convenient and relevant for our citizens,” she added.

The chairperson concluded by reflecting on the journey of digital innovation in Azerbaijan, recognizing the advantages of learning from global experiences to avoid past mistakes and to implement effective, user-friendly solutions.
