Azerbaijan’s President Expresses Concern Over Lack of European Investment in Energy Sector

Davos: 'Unfortunately, we do not see significant investments from Europe in either fossil fuels or renewable energy,' said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev as he responded to questions from business representatives from various countries during an event titled 'Azerbaijan Executive Breakfast,' held as part of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev highlighted that Azerbaijan's main partners in the field of renewable energy are the UAE, Saudi Arabia, China, the UK, and companies from Azerbaijan. He noted that, traditionally, American and British companies have shown interest in fossil fuels. After the merger of BP and AMOCO, BP is now considered a British company. Aliyev expressed that there are very few European companies involved, mentioning only a French company and another from a different country.

The President underscored the lack of significant interest from European companies in energy investments, both in fossil fuels and renewables. This situation is notable given Azerbaijan's strategic role in the energy sector, and the absence of robust European participation might influence the dynamics of future energy collaborations and developments in the region.
