Baku: Today Azerbaijan plays an important bridge role between the Global North and the Global South, according to Aygun Aliyeva, Chairperson of the Board of the Agency for State Support to NGOs and member of the WUF13 Organizing Committee. During a roundtable titled 'Community-led Action for Adequate Housing, Land and Basic Services in the Face of the Climate Crisis,' Aliyeva emphasized the significance of sustainable society as a foundation for building sustainable cities.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Aliyeva highlighted Azerbaijan's ongoing efforts in post-conflict reconstruction and urban recovery, particularly in the liberated territories of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur. The country is creating smart cities, green energy zones, and modern urban ecosystems grounded in sustainability and people-centered development principles. She stressed that rebuilding efforts extend beyond mere infrastructure to include the restoration of human rights and social trust.

Aliyeva underscored the crucial role of civil society organizations in addressing community issues and supporting people during difficult times. These organizations help foster trust between institutions and society, ensuring development aligns with actual community needs. She also noted Azerbaijan's facilitation of dialogue and international cooperation between the Global North and South, as discussions about urban development inherently relate to the future of humanity.

The vision shared by Aliyeva and other participants at the roundtable is one where cities transcend physical boundaries, becoming spaces of dignity, inclusiveness, and opportunity. This vision involves building cities not just with concrete but with solidarity, shared responsibility, and a collective belief in a common future.
